Lucknow (27 August 2025) - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two inspectors of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), along with a private nursing home owner and three other individuals, in connection with a ₹10 lakh bribery and extortion case.

The arrested inspectors have been identified as Mahipal Singh and Ravi Ranjan. According to the CBI, they were allegedly running a bribery racket by threatening to falsely implicate a private nursing home owner, Gayasuddin Ahmad, in a case related to the procurement of a restricted drug, specifically Codeine syrup.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI in Lucknow initiated a probe after receiving a complaint. During the operation, CBI teams intercepted the transaction and successfully recovered the full ₹10 lakh bribe amount.

Further investigation into the case has led to additional arrests, including a third CBN inspector, Adarsh Yogi, and two private persons, Sunil Jaiswal and Subhash Jaiswal, who were allegedly acting as middlemen in the extortion scheme. The CBI has charged the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The arrests have sent a strong message against corruption within government agencies, with the CBN taking disciplinary action by dismissing one inspector and suspending two others following the incident. All six individuals have been produced before a CBI court and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking for other individuals believed to be involved in the nexus.

Further proceedings are in progress.
